An inmate at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center has been found guilty by a six-member jury of battery of a correctional officer for throwing liquid feces on the officer in a one-day trial in 18th Judicial District Court in Iberville Parish tonight.
The jury deliberated only 18 minutes in finding Vincent Castillo, 56, of 5925 Hwy. 74, St. Gabriel, guilty. He was serving a 20-year sentence at the time after being adjudicated a habitual offender. The battery occurred at the prison on April 17, 2025. District Judge Elizabeth Engolio set sentencing for December 16.
“This kind of disgusting behavior against correctional officers will not be tolerated,” said District Attorney Tony Clayton. “He was supposed to be in prison until 2031. This will extend his stay behind bars.” Assistant District Attorneys Nedi Morgan and Joseph LeBeau prosecuted the case for the DA’s Office. “The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office and Elayn Hunt investigators conducted a thorough investigation, which provided us with an excellent case,” Clayton said.
